Men's Grooming AdviceFrom A Licensed Barber
I’m James Goodman, a licensed barber, men’s grooming editor, freelance writer, and lifelong student of the craft. After more than two decades behind the chair, I built Barber Goodman to help men understand their hair, choose better haircuts, find the right products, and walk into every barbershop appointment with more confidence. My advice comes from real experience with real clients, not theory.
My Background and Approach
I started cutting hair at 18, became a licensed barber, and spent years learning what actually works. I use that hands-on experience to write, edit and fact-check practical men’s grooming content. As the owner and editor of Men’s Hairstyles Today and a contributor to American Salon, I cover haircut trends, styling methods and the techniques shaping modern barbering.
I believe that most men do not need complicated guidance or tutorials. They need clear, simple recommendations from someone who understands how hair behaves in real life.
Barber Goodman is built around the questions men actually ask in the chair, like:
- What haircut would work best for me?
- How do I ask my barber for this style? What do I say?
- Which product should I use to create this look?
- What trends are worth trying and which ones only look good in photos or celebrities?
My goal is to give you the language, confidence, and practical knowledge to make better decisions.
My Editorial Promise
My standard is simple: practical grooming advice you can trust before you sit in the chair, buy a product, or change your look.
A good haircut should fit your hair, face, lifestyle, and ability to style it at home. My goal is not to chase trends, but to help you understand which styles, tools, and techniques actually work based on real barbering experience.
Every guide I publish is written by me: someone who has spent years cutting, styling, testing, explaining, and writing about men’s hair.
Where I'm Published
I currently contribute to Barber’s Take and American Salon, where I write about men’s hair trends and barbering techniques for a professional audience.
